What is Heatmap?
A heatmap is a visualization showing where users click, scroll or look most on a page — used to optimize layout and CTAs.
There are 3 common types: click heatmap (where they click), scroll heatmap (how far they scroll), and eye-tracking (where they look, more expensive). Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity are the most-used tools in SaaS.
Heatmaps reveal hidden problems: users clicking non-clickable elements, primary CTA ignored (banner blindness), 50% rolling halfway down (critical content below the fold).
Frequently asked questions
Does a heatmap replace A/B testing?
No. Heatmap shows HOW users interact; A/B test proves which version converts more. They complement each other.
Are heatmaps a privacy concern?
Yes. Microsoft Clarity and similar record sessions; configure masks for sensitive inputs and LGPD/GDPR compliance.
